The mission of the Thomaston Health Department is to prevent disease, maintain a healthy environment and promote community health for the citizens of the Town of Thomaston. The Department of Health is responsible for protecting the health of the public including but not limited to: reviewing and approving septic and well installation and repairs, reviewing and approving improvements and additions that may impact the septic and/or well, inspecting restaurants. It shall be noted that the Thomaston Department of Health is a part of the Torrington Area Health District and all communication and permits are through the Torrington Area Health District.

This document is required by the Thomaston Health Department when an existing septic system is failed and needs to be repaired.

Thomaston Health Department Plan Review Application for Subdivision
This form must be filled out and submitted if you are proposing a subdivision or resubdivision. This document also provides instruction as it relates to the process. Thomaston Health Department Application for Beauty Salon/Barber Shop
This application must be filled out by anyone proposing a beauty salon or barber shop in the Town of Thomaston. Per theTorrington Area Health District, “In 1984, after the State Department of Public Health discontinued its inspection program, the TAHD adopted its own local regulations that provide for the licensing and inspection of Beauty Salons and Barber Shops. These facilities are inspected annually or as necessary to enforce the provisions of the regulation. In recent years the barber shop and beauty salon image has changed giving rise to unisex salons with a variety of services including nail treatments, tanning booths, facial treatments and hair removal. Our inspection includes a check to see that the staff is properly licensed as well as to ensure that the business is clean and properly maintained. All equipment must be cleaned and sanitized in accord with the provisions of the regulation. Whenever a shop is newly constructed or remodeled a copy of the plans must be submitted to the Health District for review and approval prior to the start of work. As of October 2000 Nail Technicians must have an occupational license obtained from the State of Connecticut.”
